Having some fun

Fun Day

We all had a fun day today. The morning we spent playing with stamps, tractors in the basement, Tommy had swim class, we picked up new liab. books and then down for nap. You will see below that Tommy and Sammie had fun playing with stamps where they stamped all over their arms. Sammie was fast enough to get one stamp on her sister's hand. (Good thing their are non toxic and wash of quick and easy.) You will see a photo of Sammie in her big girl bed and a photo of her after nap where she pulled out her pony tails. She is back sleeping in her crib now. However the other day she climbed out of the crib and came down the stairs and stated, "I'm up." Hmmm, I have heard that phrase before. "How did you get up?", I asked. She was unable to respond. So I guess we have to go back to the big girl bed since climbing out of the crib is very risky. Below is also a photo of Tommy and Sammie at the Apple Picking farm. We went with Grandma on Saturday and all Tommy is asking for is an apple pie. Allie's photo was during our Mommy and me time today. Well I gotta go skin some apples..... enjoy.

Today Tommy's preschool class went to the Apple Orchard. Tommy and I were assigned a buddy, his name was Nate. Nate was a fantastic talker and so well behaved. Nate was 3 1/2 and has a cousin named Hunter and a friend named Sam. Tom told Nate that he has two sisters Sammie and Allie. Tommy was proud to anounce that to his new friend. We got to ride the bus which was a thrill for both Tommy and Nate. Then we walked up to the barn and watched a movie about Johnny Appleseed. Do you know that he really did wear a pot on his head while he was walking across the nation making apple orchards and selling Bibles? We got to learn about Bees, see a real be hive and learn why bees are so important for apples to grow. We then each got to pick 6 apples. Tommy himself has already eaten 3 of them while Sammie has eaten two all the way down to the seeds, she even ate the core! Who knew she liked apples so much. Enjoy the photos, Tommy has the orange Illinois hat on in the back row.

Sammie had her second night in the big girl bed on Monday night. It was around 3 a.m. and I started to hear things. So I sat up and listened carefully and sure enough I heard something outside our room, one of the kids was up. So I stepped into the hall and noticed that Sammie's room had her light on. So I walked in and what did I see, Sammie standing in a diaper, bed is trashed (sheets are everywhere), pjs tossed on the floor, toys taken down from her dresser and books on the floor. She looks at me stunned and says, "I'm up." I follow that with, "Yes, I see that, but its bed time." I walk back into our room b/c now Allie has woken up and I ask Tom to get Sammie back into her crib and I will get Allie. On Tuesday night Sammie told me why she was not sleeping in the big girl bed, "I got up, Daddy put me in crib, Daddy get my blanket downstairs." She continues to amaze Tom and I, how she remembered at 3 a.m. that her blanket for the crib was down stairs I don't know but she sent Tom down to get it. Maybe she was awake long enough to think about it while Tom and I were still 1/2 asleep trying to get two kids back to bed.

When Mommy makes a mistake

Today we picked pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, right from our own back yard. We grew 5 pumpkins and 7 watermelon. After picking the pumpkins and watermelons I had a bright (not so bright) idea. I suggested to Tom Sr. to bring the kids into the front and smash one of the baby watermelons in the street to watch it explode. They watermelons were too small to eat and I thought the kids would think it was fun to watch it break into a bunch of little pieces. So we all went to the front, Tom tossed a watermelon into the air and splat, it exploded into a bunch of pieces. Tommy Jr. immediatly broke into tears exclaiming, "I don't like that, I don't like that!" Eventually he stated that he wanted us to put it back together. Sammie just repeated, "Tommy, its ok." I was so disappointed in myself that my idea made my little guy cry. I did not realize how much Tommy Jr. appreciated the fruit and veggies we grew this summer. Below are the photos of the watermelon, Tommy Jr.'s reaction, Tommy and Sammie enjoying the garden picking and Allie in her favorite spot, the changing table looking into Mommy or Daddy's eyes.

Busted

So this morning as we were getting ready to bring Tommy to his school, Sammie wanted to review the chain of events. So she started with, "Momma, Tommy go to school, we walk, drop off Tommy and I eat donut, right Momma?" Tommy then replied, "Whad she say?" When Tommy does not understand something he asks you to repeat it by stating, "Whad you say?” I did not answer Tommy and just asked him again to put on his shoes for school. Tommy said, "Donuts, that’s silly." I am not sure Tommy knows what a donut is.

What Sammie was referring to was that on Monday she and I stopped by the store to pick up food to meet our friends the Stanleys at their house for lunch. Tommy was with our friends the Stanleys' so it was just Sammie, Allie and I. I was having a sugar crash so I grabbed a package of donut holes and Sammie immediately announced, "I want that." So once in the car we shared a few donut holes. Since that time, if Tommy is not in the car, I will share another donut hole with Sammie. I believe that Sammie now understands the correlation that when Tommy is not in the car, Mommy pulls out the donut holes (hidden under the seat). So she wanted to know this morning if she was gong to get a donut hole once we dropped off Tommy at school. I tell you Sammie is one smart little girl.

As for Tommy's allergies, we visited the allergist this week and received confirmation that Tommy's allergies to Peanuts and Milk are still with him. So we go another year and have him retested at age 5. (80% of children with Milk allergies out grow them by kindergarten so we pray that Tommy will meet or beat that statistic.)

Here are some photos from this morning to enjoy:
